Period 31st UNIT 4: FESTIVALS AND FREE TIME Lesson 1 – Period 1:New words, Listening (Page 30) Time: 45 minutes Class Date of teaching Absent students 6A4 I. THE AIMS OF THE LESSON. 1. Knowledge. - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: +Vocabulary items about adverbs of frequency (often, never, sometimes, always, rarely, usually) + Skill : Listening 2. Ability: - Students can practice listening and speaking communicative situations to talk about how often do you do activities in free time. - Students form and develop competencies: the ability to the ability to autonomy and self-study, the ability to communicate and cooperate, to solve problems and to create. 3. Quality: - Students have serious learning attitude; love learning English, energetically and actively participate in learning activities. - Students' qualities are helped to develop such as: kindness,love natural, love for people, love, respect and protect yourself, have a sense of self-training, take responsibility for yourself and your family. -Raise motivations and interests in learning English as a foreign language II. TEACHING EQUIPMENT AND LEARNING MATERIALS. - Teacher prepares the lesson plan, textbooks, teaching aids such as personal computers, projectors, speakers… - Students prepare textbooks, notebooks, studying tools, … ready for the lesson. III. TEACHING PROCESS. 1. Activity 1: Warm up: (6 minutes) a) Objective: - Help students review using: + vocabulary about free time activities to identify, understand the situation of the new lesson. b) Content: - Review and use vocabulary about free time activities. - Work in individual. c) Products: Students know how to find out the correct words from these words relating to adverb of frequency and free time activities. d) Organization of implementation: Teacher's activities Students' activities Warm up Play a game: Missing letters - Put the words with some missing letters on the board. Let’s find out the correct words from these words relating to free time activities. - Call on students to come to the board and write the correct words. - Give feedback * Missing letters 1. Activity 2: Presentation :(10 minutes) a) Objective: Help students identify, understand the situation and the adverb of freequecy b) Content: Learn and use language materials simply. Work in individuals,work in pairs or work in groups. Then fill in the blanks c) Products: Students know how to to read the new words individual, play the game and do exercies d) Organization of implementation: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 1.Teaching new words - Use simple English and show adverbs of frequency levels to teach new words. New words: 1. Never (adv): không bao giờ 2. rarely (adv): hiếm khi 3. sometimes (adv): thỉnh thoảng 4. often (adv): thường 5. usually (adv): thông thường 6. always (adv): luôn luôn - Have students listen and repeat each new word. (chorally – individually) - Correct student’s pronunciation if necessary. 2. Checking new words + Checking vocabulary: Matching - Shows the words and the levels to students to match. 3. Fill in the blanks - Have students work in pairs, fill in the blanks, use the words given. (exercise a/p. 30) - Play audio again. Have students listen and check. - Teacher checks, corrects and gives feedback. Activity 3: Practice knowledge (16 minutes) a) Objective: Help students use the knowledge they have learn to listen and check their guessing; listen and fill in the blanks in their books. b) Content: Listen and answer the questions, apply knowledge to practice with the exercise. Work in individuals, work in pairs, work in groups, experience in the situations. c) Products: Students know how to to use the knowledge they have learned. d) Organization of implementation: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 1: listen and answer the question - Teacher shows the pictures of free time activities, asks a student to listen and answer the questions. (exercise a/p. 30) - Teacher has students look at the questions. - Teacher plays audio and has students listen and answer the questions by circling "Yes" or "No." - Teacher checks answers as a whole class. Answer: “No” 2: Filling in the blanks - Teacher plays the audio twice and has students fill in the missing words in the blanks. - Teacher calls some students to give answers. Activities 4: Further Practice (10 minutes) a) Objective: Help students use the knowledge they have learned to practice with the teacher's requirements. b) Content: Apply knowledge to make sentences with adverbs of frequency about free time activities. Guide and ask students to ask and answer in pairs, groups, experience in the situations then present in the class. c) Products: Students know how to use the knowledge they have learned to make sentence about free time activities. d) Organization of implementation: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Speaking. - T asks students to make the sentences with adverbs of frequency about free time activities. - Students work individually and then exchange answers with their partners. - Some students present in front of the class. Example: Student A: I usually play tennis in my free time. Student B: I never go to the cinema after school. Activity 2: Presentation (10 minutes) a) Objective: Help students identify, understand the situation and use the adverbs of frequency b) Content: Learn and use the adverbs of frequency. c) Products: Students know how to use the adverbs of frequency.in everyday communication d) Organization of implementation: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Chatting: + How often do you play soccer? + How often does your brother play soccer? - Teacher shows the conversation on the board. - Teacher explains the structure with “How often….…” that is used to ask about things we often do. - Teacher shows example sentences and elicits the way to use “How often.” and reminds Ss that “do/ does” are the forms of “Auxiliary verbs”. How often + Auxiliary verb + Subject + Verb? =>Subject + Adverbs of frequency + Verb - Ask Ss to give examples to make sure they catch the point. - listen and answer the teacher’s question - copy down - Give examples 3. Activity 3: Practice (16 minutes) a) Objective: Help students use the knowledge they have learn to write sentences, using adverbs of frequency b) Content: Looking at the table and writing answers , apply knowledge to practice with the exercise. Work in individuals, work in pairs, work in groups, experience in the situations. c) Products: Students know how to to use the knowledge they have learned. d) Organization of implementation: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Activity 1: Listen & repeat (a/p. 31) - T introduces the situation of the dialogue. - Have students listen and notice the pronunciation feature. - Play audio again. Have students listen and repeat with a focus on the feature. - T calls on Ss to repeat before the class - Give feedback Activity 2: Read and fill in the blanks (b/p. 31) - Have students practice in pairs, read the sentences and fill in the blanks with adverbs of frequency. - The first three pairs show the answers on the board. - Teacher checks and gives marks. Knowledge. - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: + stress the adverbs for emphasis. + ask and answer about the frequency of activities. + find out their “spirit animal”. 2. Ability: - Students can practice speaking communicative situations to talk about how often do you do activities in free time. - Students form and develop competencies: the ability to the ability to autonomy and self-study, the ability to communicate and cooperate, to solve problems and to create. 3. Quality: - Students have serious learning attitude; love learning English, energetically and actively participate in learning activities. - Students' qualities are helped to develop such as: kindness,love natural, love for people, love, respect and protect yourself, have a sense of self-training, take part in useful activities in their free time -Develop communicative and team-working skills through learning activities II. Activity 2: Presentation :(10 minutes) a) Objective: Help students identify, understand stress the adverbs for emphasis b) Content: - recognizing the stress of the adverbs, listen and check, find mistakes. - Practicing saying them. c) Products: Students know how to put stress on the adverbs for emphasis to improve their speaking skill d) Organization of implementation: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities a + b. Listen to the sentences and focus on the stress of the adverbs - Play the recording (CD1, track 45) - Ask Ss to listen and pay attention to the stress of the adverbs - Call Ss to make their comments on how the adverbs are stressed - Give feedback, explain the pronunciation feature: In speaking, we often stress the adverbs for emphasis - Play the recording again, have Ss listen and repeat with a focus on the pronunciation feature c + d. Listen and cross out the one with the wrong stress, then read the sentences with the correct sentence stress to a partner - Play the recording, have Ss listen and cross out the option that doesn’t use the correct stress - Call Ss to give answers - Play the recording again and check answers as a whole class - Then have Ss practice saying the sentences with a partner, using the correct stress, encourage Ss to make up their own sentences -using adverbs of frequency – and put stress on the adverbs - Call some pairs to read in front of the class. - Give feedback, correct Ss’ pronunciation if necessary - Listen - Comment - Listen - Listen and cross out the wrong sentence stress - Listen - Work in pairs - Present 3. A: How often do you go swimming? B: I often go swimming on the weekends. 2. A: How often do you play video games? B: I sometimes play video games after school. 3. A: How often do you do yoga?
